12 Injured, Including 6 Children, in Shooting Near Florida A&M Homecoming Game

At least 12 people, including six children, were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University in Tallahassee on Saturday night, police said, after a fight broke out in a crowded area following the school's homecoming football game. Eleven people suffered gunshot wounds, and a twelfth person was hurt while trying to flee the scene.

The gunfire happened around 8 p.m. near Perry Street and the university's Bragg Memorial Stadium, where crowds had gathered after the homecoming game. Tallahassee police Chief Lawrence Revell said officers were already nearby when an altercation broke out, and the preliminary investigation indicates the fight came before the shooting. At least three victims were seriously injured, and one person remained in critical condition on Sunday morning, while five victims had been released from hospital.

No arrests had been announced and no deaths were reported. Florida A&M said the incident happened near campus, that the campus remained safe, and urged people to avoid the area while police investigate. The university expressed sympathy for those injured and affected, as investigators worked to establish exactly what led to the gunfire.
