20 Abducted Police Recruits Recovered Safely in Kalat

The 20 police recruits from the Kalat Police Training Centre who were abducted by unidentified men last week have been safely recovered, officials told Dawn on Tuesday. A senior police officer confirmed that "all personnel are safe and sound."
The trainees were kidnapped on Friday while travelling from Kalat to Noshki in a private van. Armed men stopped the vehicle on the Quetta-Karachi Highway and took the recruits away. They were recovered from the Mangochar area of Kalat district in Balochistan.
The young men were heading home for the weekend when they were seized. Their recovery ends a tense few days for their families and the police department, which had launched a search across the district. The incident is the latest reminder of the security challenges in Balochistan, where police and security personnel have repeatedly been targeted. Officials did not say whether any arrests had been made or whether any group had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
