Afghanistan Hits Back at Pakistan: 1,119 Civilians Killed or Injured Since 2022, Kabul Says

Afghanistan's Taliban-led government has hit back sharply at Pakistan, urging Islamabad to stop making what it calls baseless allegations and instead fix its own security problems. In an interview with CNN reported by Tolo News, foreign ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi said more than 1,100 civilians have been killed or injured in cross-border strikes since early 2022 — most of them women and children.
“Since early 2022, 1,119 civilians have been killed or injured in these attacks, most of them women and children, including hundreds at a rehabilitation center,” Balkhi said. He argued that Pakistan should address its challenges “through responsible engagement with its own people and genuine diplomacy with Afghans.”
The rebuke follows a fresh low in relations between the neighbours. Kabul has repeatedly condemned Pakistani military operations for hitting residential areas, pointing to strikes last month in Kunar and Paktika provinces that reportedly killed three people. Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also recently accused Islamabad of blaming Afghanistan for Pakistan's internal failures. With both sides trading accusations over cross-border militancy, the diplomatic rift shows no sign of closing.
