Anthropic IPO: $80.7 Billion Loss Revealed in Confidential Filing

Anthropic's confidential IPO filing has revealed eye-watering numbers: an $80.7 billion net loss for the first half of 2026, according to the draft prospectus reviewed by the Wall Street Journal. The Claude maker is targeting a stock market listing that could value the company at around $2 trillion.
Most of the loss comes from accounting charges on convertible notes rather than cash spending, but the underlying figures are still staggering. Revenue surged to $16.3 billion for the half — up from $1.1 billion a year earlier — while compute spending hit roughly $9 billion in just six months, exceeding the whole of 2025's $7.3 billion.
The filing also shows future infrastructure commitments that could exceed $600 billion, including about $450 billion in mostly non-cancellable cloud deals — $111 billion with Google Cloud, $110 billion with AWS and $31 billion with Microsoft — plus $86 billion for Nvidia chip rentals. The disclosures underline just how expensive the race to build the next generation of AI models has become.
