Anthropic Launches Claude Duet, a Proactive AI Agent App, to Take On OpenAI and Meta

Anthropic has unveiled Claude Duet, a standalone AI agent app designed to act as a proactive assistant for professionals and small-business owners — its answer to OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse in the race to build AI that works on its own.
Unlike a chatbot that waits for prompts, Duet reaches out before you ask. It connects to your apps, sends a short morning brief on items needing attention, checks back every few hours and can complete tasks from scheduling meetings to building financial forecasts and web apps. It is built around Anthropic's Opus 5.5 model and plugs into more than 6,000 connectors, including Gmail and Slack — and can even make purchases through Stripe's Link and Shopify's Shop Pay.
Anthropic says Duet requires user approval before sensitive actions like sending messages, making payments or deleting files, and acknowledges it can misjudge urgency. It runs in a virtual machine with its own browser and never sees passwords or logins.
Duet is available now in a waitlisted research preview for US subscribers on Claude Pro and Max plans, via the web and a standalone iOS app, with Android and claude.ai access rolling out.
The launch lands as the agent wars heat up: Meta's Muse app hit 10.2 million US downloads in its first 40 days, while OpenAI's always-on Dots agents rolled out last month.
