Anthropic's IPO Filing Reveals $16.3 Billion Revenue — and an $80.7 Billion Loss

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, has publicly filed its long-awaited IPO prospectus with US regulators, revealing explosive growth alongside a huge paper loss. The S-1 filing, made public on October 26, shows revenue of $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026 — roughly 14 times the $1.16 billion recorded a year earlier — as businesses rushed to adopt its AI tools.
The headline loss of $80.7 billion looks alarming, but most of it is an accounting charge, not cash lost. About $72.4 billion comes from the rising paper value of convertible investor notes as Anthropic's own valuation climbed. Strip that out, and the operating loss narrowed to $693 million from $2.1 billion a year earlier, with the second quarter alone turning an operating profit of $974 million.
Anthropic plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading the offering, though the share count and price range are still blank. More than 11,900 customers now spend at least $100,000 a year with the company, including every Fortune 10 firm, and it held $131.7 billion in cash and short-term investments at the end of June — a war chest for the computing power its models demand.
