Aolani Signs Deal for 500MW of AI Data Centre Capacity in Malaysia

Singapore-based AI cloud company Aolani has signed letters of intent to secure 500 megawatts of AI data centre capacity in Malaysia — one of the biggest AI infrastructure commitments in Southeast Asia this year. The capacity is expected to come online starting in the second half of 2027 across multiple sites built to Tier III standards, purpose-designed for AI workloads and GPU deployments.
The deal would lift Aolani's total committed capacity in Malaysia to as much as 580MW by 2027, up from about 80MW this year. The sites will host what the company calls AI factories — dense clusters of computing power serving global tech giants, AI startups and, potentially, Malaysia's own sovereign AI programmes, local businesses and researchers.
Malaysia has quietly become one of the hottest destinations for AI infrastructure, thanks to competitive power prices, available land and strong government backing for digital investment. Malaysia is a vital strategic anchor for Aolani, CEO Nicholas Chia said, adding that the expansion is aimed at making high-performance computing accessible beyond just the world's biggest tech companies. As the global AI race accelerates, the fight for data centre capacity is moving firmly into Southeast Asia.
