Apple and SpaceX Reportedly Plot Starlink Satellite Internet for iPhone 18 Pro

Apple and SpaceX are reportedly plotting to bring Starlink’s direct-to-cell satellite technology to the iPhone, potentially giving future iPhones internet access without a SIM card or carrier network. According to industry sources, the partnership would embed satellite connectivity directly into the iPhone 18 Pro models, with no extra hardware required, letting users stay connected in rural and underserved areas where traditional networks struggle.

The reports say Apple also plans an API for third-party developers so apps can use satellite links for real-time data — opening new use cases in telemedicine, remote monitoring and even augmented reality. The move would deepen SpaceX’s dominance in satellite communications after its $17 billion acquisition of EchoStar’s wireless spectrum, while Apple avoids the regulatory burden of becoming a carrier.

No official announcement has been made, and the feature is said to depend on final negotiations — possibly debuting with the iPhone 18 Pro next year. The plan raises questions about the future of Apple’s existing Globalstar satellite deal. If it materializes, the tie-up would further blur the line between satellite and cellular networks and set a precedent for the smartphone industry.
