Apple iPhone Duo Cracked Screen Complaints Emerge Ahead of November 2 Earnings

Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo has run into its first public problem, with buyers reporting cracked screens after unfolding the $2,000 device. Complaints surfaced on social media over the weekend, with users saying a large crack formed along the centre crease as they opened the phone. The Duo, launched in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, is Apple's biggest smartphone redesign in nearly two decades, and pre-orders that began on October 16 sold out within minutes before global shipping started last Friday.
Despite the complaints, analysts are not panicking yet. HSBC analyst Nicolas Cote-Colisson said sales of the Duo 'look promising despite display issues on a small number of units', keeping a Buy rating and a $366 price target. Reports also suggest Apple has raised shipping targets for the device by 44%. Cote-Colisson expects chief executive John Ternus to use the earnings call to clarify the display issue, while demand for the iPhone 18 range also looks strong.
Apple reports its fiscal fourth-quarter results on Monday, November 2, after the market closes, and Wall Street expects revenue of about $113 billion, up roughly 11% from a year earlier, with earnings per share near $1.98. iPhone sales are forecast at $57.18 billion, up 16.6%. Early demand signals are mixed: Counterpoint Research says iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max unit sales rose just 3.1% in their first three weeks, with China up 29% but the United States down 4% and Japan down 27%.
