Apple Unveils First Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro, Starting at $2,899

Apple has officially unveiled its first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, ending years of resistance to touch on the Mac. Announced on October 28 at its 'Pro and tell' event in Los Angeles, the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is the company's first laptop with an OLED screen and its most expensive MacBook to date, with pre-orders open now and availability from November 6.
The headline feature is the tandem OLED display, which Apple says reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The old notch is gone, replaced by a Dynamic Island around a 12-megapixel webcam, just like on recent iPhones, and the glowing Apple logo returns to the lid. The machines are also lighter, at three pounds for the 14-inch model and four pounds for the 16-inch, with up to 24 hours of battery life.
Power comes from Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of memory and up to 16TB of storage. The 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399, while M5 Max versions start at $4,499 and $4,799. That sits well above the separate M6 14-inch MacBook Pro announced a day earlier at $1,999, making the touchscreen OLED line a clear premium choice for professionals who need the best screen Apple has ever put in a laptop.
