BISP Removes 2.25 Million Fake Beneficiaries — Rs712 Million Recovered

Pakistan's government has removed more than 2.25 million ineligible beneficiaries from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and recovered over Rs712 million from fraudulent recipients. A report submitted by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety in the National Assembly says 2,259,404 names were struck off the rolls between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026.
The crackdown follows an audit that found 140,488 government employees and their family members were receiving BISP payments they had no right to. The ministry says 229,157 government employees and their spouses have now been blocked from the programme entirely.
Of the recovered money, Rs545.784 million was clawed back through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), while Rs21.55 million came from BISP's own employees who were found misusing the system.
Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation Syed Imran Ahmad Shah told parliament the ministry had also received 55,579 complaints about unauthorized deductions and embezzlement. The cleanup is one of the largest welfare-fraud purges in the programme's history — a programme meant for the country's poorest families, now being tightened against those who were gaming it.
