Bitcoin Price Drops Below $82,000 as Tesla Earnings Revive AI-Spending Fears

Bitcoin fell as much as 2.9% to around $81,600 on Friday, sliding below the $82,000 mark as Tesla's latest earnings revived Wall Street's fears about Big Tech's enormous AI spending. Tesla itself holds 11,509 bitcoins worth about $962 million — up 42.7% on the quarter, with no buying or selling.
Tesla's third-quarter results, reported October 21, were a mixed bag: revenue of $28.05 billion came in just under estimates, while adjusted earnings of $0.48 per share beat the $0.44 expected. But investors punished the stock — down 3.08% to $374.58 on October 22 and about 5% lower in premarket trading — after the company cut its 2026 capital spending to around $20 billion, scaled back its long-term vehicle target, and signaled that meaningful robotaxi revenue won't arrive until 2027-28.
Meta added to the unease with its own mixed quarter: revenue of $64.6 billion beat forecasts, but earnings of $3.83 per share missed the $5.89 expected. Still, Elon Musk insisted Tesla's vehicle demand is exceeding production ahead of the Cybercab launch in Dallas, crediting Full Self-Driving as the biggest driver of sales.
