Bitcoin Price Today: BTC Holds Above $81K as Oil Hits Six-Month High

Bitcoin traded near $81,300 on Friday, holding above the key $81,000 level after two days of violent swings that saw it spike toward $84,800 before giving back the gains. The world's largest cryptocurrency is now on course for its first monthly loss since July 2026.

The move is not really a crypto story — it is a macro one. Oil prices jumped to their highest level since early May, with crude near $114 a barrel on renewed Middle East tensions, rattling risk assets everywhere. Higher oil feeds inflation expectations, which pressures central banks to keep interest rates higher for longer — bad news for speculative assets like Bitcoin. Ether sat near $2,400, while BNB was a standout gainer, up about 2% to $745.

Traders are watching $80,000 as the line in the sand. Holding it keeps the July-to-October uptrend technically intact, while a decisive break below would likely trigger momentum-driven selling. US spot Bitcoin ETFs still took in $527 million on October 19 — a sign institutional demand has not gone away.
