Bukele Launches Military Operation to Rescue Four Salvadorans Kidnapped by Gangs in Haiti

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele announced on Wednesday that he has launched a military operation to rescue four Salvadoran aviation technicians kidnapped by gangs in Haiti, warning of a far more forceful response if the hostages are not freed alive.
The four soldiers went missing after gangs opened fire on their armored vehicle three days earlier in the Santo area of Croix-des-Bouquets, near Port-au-Prince — the first major attack since an international gang suppression force began operating in the violence-wracked Caribbean nation. The men fled the burning vehicle and have not been seen since.
Addressing Haiti's gang leaders directly, Bukele demanded the Salvadorans be returned “alive, unharmed,” warning on X that “today's attack is nothing compared to what is coming if they do not release the four hostages alive.” He shared video of armored vehicles with shattered windows driving through smoke.
Haiti's government called the abduction an “absolute priority,” saying officials met at the prime minister's office to strengthen operations with the Gang Repression Force. It remains unclear whether any further action would be carried out by Salvadoran, Haitian or international forces.
