Commanders Star Terry McLaurin Out for the Season After Torn Patellar Tendon Surgery

Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin will miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season after tests revealed a torn patellar tendon, in a major blow to the team's offence. The Commanders confirmed McLaurin underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve on 28 October, ending his campaign with weeks of the regular season still to play.
McLaurin, one of the league's most reliable receivers and a long-time leader in the Washington locker room, had been central to the Commanders' passing game. His absence forces Washington to rework its receiving plans, with younger targets and recent additions now expected to step into much larger roles. The team must also adjust how it stretches defences downfield, an area where McLaurin's speed and route-running were hardest to replace.
The injury is the latest in a string of setbacks to hit NFL receiving corps this week, with several teams losing key pass-catchers to season-ending injuries. For Washington, the focus now turns to recovery timelines and next season: a torn patellar tendon typically demands months of rehabilitation, and the Commanders will hope their captain returns at full strength for 2027.
