Cristiano Ronaldo Banned 30 Days and Fined EUR 255 After Portugal Camp Walkout

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and fined 255 euros by the Portuguese Football Federation for walking out of the national team's training camp following his explosive fallout with head coach Jorge Jesus. The federation announced on Monday that its disciplinary council found the 41-year-old guilty of intentionally leaving camp without justification under Article 160(1) of its regulations. Ronaldo had already admitted the facts and apologised, with his clean disciplinary record counted as a mitigating factor. The ban is backdated to September 30, the day he left the Copenhagen camp, meaning he will be eligible again on November 14, when Portugal host Denmark in the Nations League, followed by Wales three days later.
The saga began on September 27 when Ronaldo was left as an unused substitute in Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway. The captain accused Jesus of breaking two promises about his playing time and about publicly explaining the situation, while the coach denied any agreement existed. In a lengthy statement, Ronaldo apologised to his teammates and the Portuguese people but insisted a "broken promise has, for me, a defining impact", and even asked to be punished without any leniency. Portugal won both matches without him and sit top of their Nations League group. The 255-euro fine is pocket change for the world's highest-paid footballer — he earns around 488,000 pounds a day at Al Nassr and could cover it in under a minute. He has the right to appeal, and Jesus says the door to a return remains open.
