Dar Urges SCO Nations to Trade in Local Currencies, Pitches CPEC at Dushanbe Summit

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has urged Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states to settle trade in their own national currencies and build new regional financial safety nets, arguing the region must shield itself from global financial shocks. Addressing the SCO Council of Heads of Government in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Dar called for speeding up the creation of an SCO Development Bank, an SCO Development Fund and an SCO Investment Fund.
Dar said such tools would advance development projects across the region and help member countries offset international financial turbulence. He also pitched the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as an open invitation, saying CPEC offered every SCO partner a compelling opportunity to join a shared journey toward economic integration. He stressed targeted investment in energy, transport, agriculture, mining and information technology, and said artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation and energy cooperation should become key pillars of future SCO collaboration.
The foreign minister added that lasting economic progress was impossible without durable peace and regional security, repeating Islamabad's single core demand of the Afghan Taliban regime: that Afghan soil must not be allowed to be used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country.
