ECP Says No Change to 2024 Constituencies in Pakistan — Only Re-Description After KP Admin Changes

Pakistan's Election Commission (ECP) has said it has not redrawn any constituency boundaries, and that existing constituencies remain exactly as they were during the 2024 general elections. In a statement, the commission said it had only re-described constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following administrative changes made by the provincial government.

The provincial government had created new districts and tehsils and changed some existing tehsils, the ECP explained. It said it has the power to re-describe constituencies under Rule 15 of the Election Rules 2017 following such administrative changes, and that this has been done before.

The commission added that Section 22 of the Elections Act 2017, which requires it to invite and hear objections over proposed alterations, does not apply in this case because no constituency has actually been redrawn. The clarification follows debate over the commission's move a day earlier.
