Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi has resigned as the party's additional secretary-general, saying his decision was not driven by any grievance or disagreement.
Naqvi announced the move in Islamabad, revealing that he had not yet issued a show-cause notice to PTI Senator Mishaal Yousafzai, despite instructions from party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Gohar had directed Naqvi to start the process two days earlier, accusing Yousafzai of publicly commenting on the party's senior leadership in violation of party discipline. She had previously been warned against such conduct, Gohar said. Gohar added that he had always supported the right of everyone to express differences of opinion on the party platform, and that action could only become necessary in certain circumstances.
Naqvi's exit comes amid growing turmoil inside the former ruling party. In recent days PTI removed Ali Amin Gandapur as chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expelled two lawmakers over alleged attempts to split the party, and faced calls for leadership changes, even as its chief whip Malik Aamir Dogar said talks with the government could resume soon.
