Phil Foden produced a stunning three-goal display as Manchester City thrashed AEK Athens 5-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, breathing new life into their European campaign.

City controlled the contest from start to finish, proving far superior in attack despite a brief second-half response from the Greek side. Foden's hat-trick was the standout feature of the evening, underlining his gradual return to top form.

"Still got a long way to go, but I am going in the right direction," Foden told TNT Sports after the match.

The convincing victory gives City renewed momentum in the league phase as they push for a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the last 16. It was a timely statement on a night when holders Paris Saint-Germain stayed perfect against Barcelona and Liverpool fought back to beat Villarreal in two of the round's other headline ties.
