Rivals are now business partners. Google Cloud has opened a private preview giving select enterprise customers access to three OpenAI models — GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna — through its Model Garden platform, with general availability expected in the coming weeks.

Astra is built for demanding work like advanced software engineering and scientific research, Sol offers near-Astra intelligence at lower cost for agentic coding, and Luna is a fast, cost-efficient option for high-volume everyday tasks. Businesses buy access through Google Cloud Marketplace, see usage on a single invoice, and can count it toward existing cloud spending commitments.

Google promises that customer prompts and outputs will stay within designated data boundaries and will never be used to train foundation models, with zero-data-retention and Confidential Compute options planned. Developers can also connect their Codex CLI and Desktop workflows to Google's Gemini platform. The move makes Google Cloud the only major cloud provider hosting all three leading closed-source AI families — Gemini, Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's GPT — though OpenAI confirmed Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
