Google Gemini Takes the Wheel: Mazda CX-5 Gets Conversational AI in Canada

Mazda Canada has integrated Google Gemini into its CX-5 SUV, letting drivers control the car with natural, multi-step conversations instead of rigid voice commands or endless menu scrolling. The system runs on Google's built-in platform and is now available across Mazda Canada's network of 163 retail stores.
Drivers can ask Gemini to handle vehicle settings, check real-time traffic and adjust climate control in plain language, and the assistant keeps the context of the conversation, so follow-up requests do not need to be repeated from scratch. Tasks started on a smartphone can also be continued in the car, making the handover between phone and dashboard smoother.
The move is part of a wider push to put conversational AI inside vehicles, where taking your eyes off the road to hunt through infotainment menus is both annoying and unsafe. If the technology works as promised, the CX-5's cabin becomes less about buttons and screens and more about simply saying what you need. Mazda says the update is designed to make everyday driving feel more seamless, and it puts Google's assistant in direct competition with rival carmakers' own voice systems.
