Grok Bot Can Now Make Phone Calls for You, Elon Musk Reveals

Elon Musk has revealed that Grok Bot, xAI's assistant, can now make phone calls on a user's behalf. Announced in posts on X on October 25, the feature lets the AI handle everyday calls such as appointment confirmations, restaurant reservations, utility hold queues and warranty service inquiries — the kind of chores that eat up hours of waiting on hold.

The consumer launch is less of a demo than it looks. The same underlying technology has already been shipping inside Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink for weeks, with 70 percent autonomous resolution already demonstrated at Starlink call centres. Musk framed the rollout simply as 'Try Grok @Bot', but the move turns the chatbot from something you talk to into something that acts for you.

Questions remain. Whether Tesla's in-car Grok integration will gain the same call-placing ability is still open, and AI-placed calls raise consent and disclosure questions that vary by state and country. How Grok Bot handles the 'this call may be recorded' problem is unresolved publicly. Still, for anyone who hates phone queues, an AI that waits on hold for you is an easy sell.
