England captain Harry Brook became the first England batter to score a double century in one-day international cricket, smashing 202 off just 116 balls against Sri Lanka in the Pakistan ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Brook reached his double hundred off only 114 balls - the fastest ODI double century in history, beating Shubman Gill's 117-ball record. He hit 21 fours and 10 sixes, with his 31 boundaries an England ODI record. He was dismissed off the very last ball of the innings.

England finished on 429 for 4, the highest ODI total ever posted on Pakistani soil. Brook's 202 moved past Ben Stokes' 182 against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023 to become England's highest individual score in the format. He put on 159 with Joe Root, who made 69, and a blistering 185 in just 79 balls alongside Will Jacks, unbeaten on 66 off 30 deliveries. England added a staggering 156 runs in the last 10 overs alone.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field, a decision that backfired badly. Set a mammoth target of 430 to win, Sri Lanka began their chase in the evening session. Both teams came into the match after losing their opening games of the tri-series to hosts Pakistan, making this a must-win contest for each side.
