iPhone Duo Could Capture Nearly 30% of Foldable Market by 2027, TrendForce Says

Apple's first foldable iPhone could take nearly 30 percent of the global foldable smartphone market by 2027, according to a new report from research firm TrendForce. With the iPhone Duo now shipping for nearly a week, TrendForce has reaffirmed its forecast that Apple will capture 29.8 percent of the segment next year, putting it second behind Samsung.

TrendForce had already predicted Apple would ship 5 million Duo units by the end of 2026, good for a 24.8 percent share in its first year. It expects the overall foldable market to reach 23.5 million shipments in 2027, up 16.3 percent, with Samsung's share slipping to 31.9 percent and Huawei's falling to 21.3 percent. Before Apple's arrival, the market was barely growing at all — just 0.5 percent in 2026, with Android-only shipments down more than 20 percent year on year.

The report says Apple's biggest advantage is its control of its own chips, operating system and developer ecosystem, which should improve app compatibility and hardware reliability over time. If the forecast holds, competition in foldables will shift away from who has the flashiest folding design and toward which phone is best for getting several things done at once.
