iPhone Duo Price: Apple's $1,999 Foldable Hits Stores as Resale Prices Reach $5,000

iPhone Duo Price: Apple

Apple's first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, reached stores around the world on October 23 with a price tag of about $2,000, and demand immediately outran supply. Pre-orders, which opened on October 16, sold out within minutes, pushing delivery estimates for new orders to late January 2027, and Apple capped purchases at two handsets per customer.

In Sydney, the first store to sell the phone, a queue formed before the 8 a.m. opening, while fans queued overnight in the rain outside London's Regent Street store and from 6 a.m. in Shanghai. The shortage has fuelled a fast resale market: confirmed pre-orders have changed hands on eBay for up to $4,999.99, against a $3,199 retail price for the top 2TB model.

The base 256GB Duo costs $1,999, with a 7.6-inch folding inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen in a titanium body. Early reviews praised the barely visible hinge and polished design but flagged camera compromises, including no telephoto lens, and apps not yet reworked for the new screen size. Market researcher IDC still expects Apple to take 44 percent of the foldable market's value in 2026 — a remarkable debut for the most expensive iPhone ever made.
