Iran Denies Hormuz Offer Reports: No Proposal Sent to US or Pakistan Mediator, State Media Says

Iran has rejected reports that it made a new offer to the United States over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, or that it sent any proposal through Pakistan as a mediator, according to Iranian state-linked media. The Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, dismissed the reports as a lie and fabrication, Iranian media reported on Sunday.
The denial follows a report by a Saudi Arabian outlet claiming Tehran had told Washington, through Pakistan, that it would reopen the strategic waterway if the United States lifted its naval blockade. Tasnim said no new proposal had been made to the US and no message had been sent to Pakistani mediators, according to Press TV.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier said in Baghdad on October 18 that Iran's existing offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days remains on the table, and that Tehran is reviewing comments shared by the United States. US President Donald Trump has said a deal with Iran remains possible but has refused to rule out further military action, saying any agreement must permanently prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. The Strait of Hormuz, which links the Gulf to the open ocean, remains one of the world's most sensitive energy chokepoints, and any disruption there feeds directly into global oil prices.
