Iran Dismisses Qatar's 7-Day Peace Plan as Unacceptable, Holds Firm on Nuclear Issue

Iran Dismisses Qatar

Iran has dismissed Qatar's latest ideas for ending its eight-month war with the United States and Israel, with a senior Iranian official saying Doha had put forward only 'unacceptable ideas and not an offer'. Qatari mediators presented a new draft proposal to Tehran on Sunday, setting out a seven-day sequence of daily confidence-building steps for both sides, with several countries acting as guarantors. Tehran was expected to reply by the end of the week, but its first public reaction was a firm rejection.

The sticking point remains the nuclear programme. Washington wants it included in negotiations from the outset, while Tehran insists its own conditions must be met first — an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports and the lifting of sanctions on its oil exports. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Wednesday that Iran was still in close contact with intermediaries and was reviewing ideas that could put its own seven-day plan into practice in less than a week, keeping diplomacy alive even as it rejected the Qatari draft.

The war, which began on February 28, has disrupted global shipping and oil supplies and recently spread to Saudi Arabia and Yemen, where Houthi attacks on a major Saudi refinery pushed oil prices above $115 a barrel on Wednesday. With US President Donald Trump repeating threats of further strikes and concerns that Israel could resume attacks this week, mediators face a narrow window to turn the competing seven-day plans into a deal both sides can accept.
