Ishaq Dar Arrives in Dushanbe to Lead Pakistan at SCO Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Dushanbe on Monday to lead Pakistan's delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Council of Heads of Government meeting, being held on October 19 and 20. He is visiting Tajikistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda.

Dar was received on arrival by Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, who also co-chairs the Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Commission, along with Pakistan's Ambassador to Tajikistan, Irfan Ahmed, and the country's National Coordinator for the SCO, Khalil Hashmi.

The Council of Heads of Government is the SCO's second-highest decision-making body and guides cooperation on the economy, finance, trade, connectivity and development. The meeting will bring together the prime ministers of Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, along with Iran's vice president and India's external affairs minister.

On the sidelines, Dar is expected to meet Tajikistan's leadership and his counterparts from other member states, and to link regional peace with ending terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. The Foreign Office said Pakistan has also begun preparations to host the SCO Council of Heads of State summit in Islamabad in 2027. Pakistan last hosted the heads-of-government meeting in Islamabad in October 2024.
