Justice Munib Akhtar Takes Oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

Justice Munib Akhtar, the Senior Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, took the oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Wednesday at a ceremony in Islamabad. The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar in what was described as a simple and dignified ceremony at the Supreme Court.
Justice Akhtar will serve as Acting Chief Justice while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remains abroad on an official visit. The ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court, the Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy, the Secretary of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, the Secretary of the Supreme Judicial Council and law officers, with the Registrar of the Supreme Court conducting the proceedings.
The appointment keeps the country's top court running smoothly during the Chief Justice's absence, with the senior-most judge stepping into the role as is customary. Court business continues as normal, with the acting chief justice presiding over the bench until Justice Afridi returns.
