Knicks vs Pistons 111-97: Towns 27 Points and 20 Rebounds End New York Winless Start

The defending champion New York Knicks are winless no more. Karl-Anthony Towns delivered 27 points and 20 rebounds as New York beat the previously unbeaten Detroit Pistons 111-97 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, earning their first win of the 2026-27 NBA season after three straight defeats.
The night started badly for the champions. Detroit piled up 38 first-quarter points and led 38-25 at the first break, threatening a fourth straight loss. But New York tightened up on defence, holding the Pistons to just 12 second-quarter points to take a 51-50 half-time lead. Then came the decisive stretch: a 37-13 third quarter that turned a one-point edge into an 88-63 lead entering the fourth, and Detroit never got closer than 11 points again.
Jalen Brunson added 23 points and seven assists despite shooting just 5 of 18 from the field, while OG Anunoby and Landry Shamet scored 13 points each. For Detroit, Paul Reed led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds, and star guard Cade Cunningham finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. The Pistons shot just 9 of 37 from three-point range. New York now travel to Chicago to face the Bulls, while Detroit host the Charlotte Hornets.
