Kyoto Sanga vs Newcastle Jets 5-2: Japanese Side Run Riot in AFC Champions League Elite

Kyoto Sanga produced a stunning second-half display to thrash Australia's Newcastle Jets 5-2 in the AFC Champions League Elite on Tuesday at Sanga Stadium by Kyocera. The Jets had twice led in the first half through Patrick Wood, but the Japanese side turned the game on its head after the break in a seven-goal thriller that keeps their continental campaign firmly on track.

Wood struck in the 13th minute and again on the stroke of half-time, but Kyoto hit back through Hisashi Appiah Tawiah just before the break to make it 2-1 at the interval — and then took complete control. Alex Souza scored twice, Marco Tulio added another and Rafael Papagaio completed the rout, as Kyoto racked up 30 shots to Newcastle's seven in a dominant display.

The result is a heavy blow for the Australian side, who led twice but collapsed after half-time against relentless pressure from the hosts. Kyoto's 56 percent possession told only part of the story: the home side's attacking wave after the break produced four goals in less than half an hour, underlining why the Japanese club are such a dangerous force in this season's AFC Champions League Elite.
