LeBron James began a new chapter on Tuesday night, making his Philadelphia 76ers debut in a primetime opening-night showdown with the defending champion New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The 41-year-old is playing a record 24th NBA season after joining the 76ers as a free agent this summer — reportedly taking a huge discount on the veteran minimum.

James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, said he chose Philadelphia because he saw it as his best chance to win, teaming up with Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown. He started the game as a facilitator, finding teammates early before bullying Knicks guard Landry Shamet for his first basket as a Sixer. The Knicks, meanwhile, celebrated a championship banner and rings before tip-off.

The four-time champion's arrival has made Philadelphia one of the most-watched teams of the 2026-27 season. His debut came just days after a preseason outing in which he posted 10 points, four rebounds and five assists in 18 minutes. With a new super-team around him, LeBron's chase for another ring now runs through Philly. Source: read more
