Liverpool Fight Back From Two Goals Down to Stun Villarreal 4-3 in Champions League Thriller

Liverpool produced a stunning comeback at Anfield on Tuesday night, fighting back from two goals down to beat Villarreal 4-3 and keep their perfect start to the Champions League league phase alive. It was the Spanish side who struck first and left the home crowd shell-shocked, as Georges Mikautadze pounced on a misplaced Virgil van Dijk header to score inside four minutes, before Sergi Cardona doubled the lead with a calm low finish before the half-hour mark.
The Reds roared back before the break. Alexis Mac Allister headed home from Kostas Tsimikas' corner to spark the revival, and Ronald Araujo nodded in at the far post from Rio Ngumoha's excellent delivery in first-half stoppage time to level the scores. Mac Allister struck again after the restart and Florian Wirtz added a fourth, though substitute Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi pulled one back for Villarreal to set up a nervy finish.
The 4-3 victory was Liverpool's third win in three league-phase matches, underlining their status as one of the teams to beat in this season's competition. For Villarreal, it was a cruel outcome after a brave performance that had Anfield fearing the worst for nearly half an hour.
