LPG Cylinder Price in Pakistan: Rs 8,200 in Skardu as Iran Border Closure Chokes Supply

The price of a 12kg LPG cylinder in Pakistan has surged from around Rs 4,500 to Rs 7,000 within days, reaching Rs 7,500 in Lahore and Rs 8,200 in Skardu, as the closure of two key border crossings with Iran chokes off supplies. The Gabd-Rimdan and Taftan crossings were shut on October 17, halting imports that traders say total about 7,000 metric tons of LPG a day, more than 4,000 tons of it through Gabd-Rimdan alone.
Hundreds of trucks, including LPG tankers, remain stranded on both sides of the border, with drivers reporting they have waited for days in harsh conditions. The Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry has advised members to stop placing new orders with Iran until further notice, and the Pakistan LPG Association's chairman has warned that supply problems and price increases could deepen as winter approaches.
The market prices are far above the official rate. Pakistan's Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority set October's maximum at Rs 279.34 per kilogram, or Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8kg home cylinder, yet one Lahore resident reported paying Rs 500 to Rs 600 per kilogram, double or more what he paid before the closure. Pakistan and Iran give different reasons for the shutdown, with Islamabad citing security and anti-smuggling concerns and Tehran pointing to technical issues, while talks on restoring trade are said to be under way.
