LPG Price in Pakistan: Cylinder Crosses Rs10,000 in North as Retailers Charge Rs750 Per Kg

Liquefied petroleum gas has surged to record prices across Pakistan, with retailers in the north charging as much as Rs750 per kilogram — nearly three times the official rate. In the colder areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a standard household cylinder has crossed Rs10,000, squeezing families just as winter demand picks up.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has notified Rs279.34 per kilogram for October, with an 11.8-kilogram domestic cylinder officially priced at Rs3,296. But market checks in Lahore, Peshawar and northern districts tell a different story: Rs500 to Rs600 per kilogram is now common, and Rs750 per kilogram was reported in northern KP this week. At those rates, a cylinder costs Rs5,900 to Rs10,000 — more than double the official price.
The squeeze has several causes. Disruptions to cross-border trade with Iran — Pakistan produces 2,000 to 2,500 tonnes of LPG a day and a similar amount was imported or smuggled from Iran — have choked supply, and winter demand is climbing fast in the north, where households depend on LPG for cooking and heating. LPG Distributors Association chairman Irfan Khokhar has warned prices could rise further, urging the government to arrange immediate imports and use the SSGC terminal to stabilize supply. Industry figures say consumers have already paid over Rs1.4 billion in excess charges in just five days, while OGRA has yet to take enforcement action against overcharging.
