Madueke's Late Winner Keeps Arsenal Within Three Points of Man City

Arsenal stayed within touching distance of the Premier League summit on Sunday, grinding out a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground thanks to Noni Madueke’s deflected 80th-minute strike. The defending champions dominated possession but barely troubled the hosts for most of the afternoon — remarkably, Madueke’s winner was Arsenal’s first shot on target of the entire match.

The substitute, who had replaced Eberechi Eze at half-time, cut inside and unleashed an effort that took a deflection off Daniel Munoz and flew past goalkeeper Matz Sels. Forest had their chances to spoil the party after falling behind, but poor finishing let them down. The defeat leaves them in the bottom three after four losses in their opening seven games, still without a home win this season.

The victory moved Mikel Arteta’s side back into second place, three points behind leaders Manchester City, who beat Ipswich 3-2 on Saturday. Arsenal now turn to a midweek Champions League trip before hosting Everton — showing once again they can win ugly when the title race demands it.
