Major Wajahat Waheed Martyred in Gwadar IED Blast; Four Terrorists Killed in Kalat
A Pakistan Army major was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast during a clearance operation in Balochistan's Gwadar district, while security forces killed four terrorists in a separate intelligence-based operation in Kalat district, the military's media wing said on Monday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 34-year-old Major Wajahat Waheed, a resident of Lahore who was leading the operation, embraced martyrdom in an IED attack in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni tehsil. The operation targeted hideouts of the banned network the state designates as "Fitna al Hindustan." A day earlier, on October 18, security forces conducted an IBO in Jattakabad, Kalat district, where an intense exchange of fire killed four terrorists and led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the martyred officer and commended the security forces. The ISPR said sanitisation operations are continuing in both areas under the relentless counterterrorism campaign "Azm-e-Istehkam." The operations come amid a wave of militant activity in Balochistan — a day earlier, security forces killed eight India-sponsored terrorists in Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts.
