Malaysia vs Pakistan Final Score: Young Tigers Win Sultan of Johor Cup 4-3 on Penalties After 2-2 Draw

Malaysia have won the Sultan of Johor Cup, beating Pakistan 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a thrilling final finished 2-2 in Johor Bahru on Saturday. The Young Tigers' triumph ends a 15-year wait for the trophy, repeating their success in the tournament's inaugural edition in 2011, and it was their first final appearance since 2013.
Pakistan made the perfect start. Rana Waleed opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the 19th minute, and Muhammad Usman doubled the lead just two minutes later to put the visitors firmly in control. But Malaysia refused to fold. Adam Asyraf pulled one back from a penalty corner in the 25th minute, and Dheeressh Gunaseelan levelled with another penalty-corner strike in the 49th minute to send the final to a shootout. Malaysia held their nerve from the spot, winning the shootout 4-3 with Aferull Syah scoring the decisive penalty. The hosts had already beaten Pakistan 3-2 in the group stage, while Pakistan reached the final after big wins over China and Canada and a 2-2 draw with Japan that sent them through on goals scored. For a young Pakistan side, the final will sting, but the run to the decider still marks a strong tournament.
