Manchester United Held 1-1 by Leeds as Winless Run Stretches to Five League Games
Manchester United’s miserable Premier League run continued on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Leeds United at Elland Road, extending their winless streak in the league to five matches.
Bryan Mbeumo gave the visitors a half-time lead, finishing Youri Tielemans’ low cross in the 35th minute for his fourth goal in seven league appearances. But Leeds struck back early in the second half when Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired home from a goalmouth scramble to level the scores.
The result leaves United closer to the relegation zone than the top four, piling more pressure on manager Michael Carrick. The club has now gone six games without a win in all competitions — its worst run since the 2018-19 season.
The match came days after defender Lisandro Martinez publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy over its summer recruitment. Martinez apologised for the timing but not the words, and started the game. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher warned on Sky Sports that United were “dropping the standards” by treating draws as acceptable.
