Meta VR Glasses and Muse Charm: Zuckerberg Unveils a Glasses-First Future
Mark Zuckerberg was back in the spotlight today, sharing fresh posts about Meta's newest hardware: the Meta VR Glasses and a tiny keychain gadget called Muse Charm. The VR Glasses are Meta's first attempt to deliver full virtual reality in the shape of ordinary glasses instead of a bulky headset. Zuckerberg pitches them as a private cinema, a workstation with multiple virtual monitors, and a game console, all packed into one pair of high-resolution glasses, with more than 100 styles on the way.
The glasses themselves weigh about 100 grams, while a small puck that slips into a pocket handles the processing and battery. They use a 5K micro-OLED 'Infinite Display', run the existing Meta Quest app catalogue, and are priced at $1,299 ahead of a launch next spring. Zuckerberg called the shift 'a glimpse of the future', arguing that people want the magic of immersion without strapping on a full headset.
The surprise of the show is Muse Charm, a joyful little device that hangs on a keychain and lets people talk to Muse, Meta's personal AI. A tap on its fingerprint sensor starts a conversation, with no need to unlock a phone or open an app, and its small screen displays a customisable Muse character. Meta is targeting a December ship date, in time for the holidays, though the price is still under wraps.
