Modi–Tusk Summit: India and Poland Seal Defence and Trade Push at New Delhi Talks
India and Poland pledged to deepen their Strategic Partnership on Thursday as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bilateral talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
Tusk arrived in India on October 21 for a three-day visit, accompanied by Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski and a large business delegation. Defence industrial co-production was a central theme, with Poland's growing military industry seeking to partner with Indian defence manufacturers. The two leaders also reviewed green energy, digital infrastructure, space cooperation and educational exchanges.
Business delegations signed agreements aimed at doubling bilateral trade over the next decade, as Poland pushes two-way trade from about $6–6.5 billion toward a $10 billion target. India-Poland business forums were scheduled in New Delhi on October 22 and Bengaluru on October 23, where Tusk will meet IT and space companies.
The visit builds on the partnership's elevation during Modi's August 2024 trip to Poland, and is expected to feed into the India-EU free trade agreement talks. It was Tusk's second visit as Polish prime minister after his 2010 trip. On global issues, Modi reiterated India's support for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. Tusk praised Modi's global leadership, calling him a "beacon of hope" amid growing uncertainty.
