NBA Scores and Standings: Doncic Drops 52 as Lakers Go 3-0, Champion Knicks Fall to 0-3

One week into the 2026-27 NBA season, the standings already tell a dramatic story. Six teams are still perfect at 3-0: the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets. At the other end, the defending champion New York Knicks are 0-3, the first reigning champions to start a season that badly since the 2011-12 Dallas Mavericks.
The Lakers have been the week's headline act. Luka Doncic poured in 52 points with 10 assists and eight rebounds as Los Angeles beat the Utah Jazz 132-123, with Austin Reaves adding 29 points. The Lakers' offence leads the league early on, and Doncic's eight three-pointers kept Utah at arm's length whenever the Jazz threatened a comeback.
The Knicks, by contrast, blew a 10-point lead with 9:20 left in a 111-102 home loss to Orlando, as the Magic scored 40 points in the fourth quarter. Monday night brings another big slate, including the unbeaten Timberwolves at Cleveland, Dallas at Miami and Golden State at Denver. Three games is a tiny sample, but the early split between the unbeaten and the winless is already the season's biggest talking point.
