Madison Square Garden arena

The 2026-27 NBA season tips off tonight with the league's first-ever opening-day tripleheader, airing on NBC and Peacock. The action starts at 3 p.m. ET with the Boston Celtics visiting the Detroit Pistons, followed by the defending champion New York Knicks hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET, and the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m. ET in a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals.

All eyes will be on Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will celebrate last season's championship before taking on a reshaped 76ers squad featuring LeBron James, the NBA's all-time scoring leader, who joined Philadelphia this summer. The late game pairs two-time reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder against the Spurs, setting an early tone in the Western Conference race.

The 82-game regular season wraps on April 11, 2027, with broadcast rights now split across Disney (ABC/ESPN), NBCUniversal (NBC/Peacock) and Amazon (Prime Video). ESPN's coverage begins Wednesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo making his Miami Heat debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves, followed by Stephen Curry's Warriors visiting Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers. No games are scheduled for Election Day, November 3, while Christmas Day brings a 2026 Finals rematch between the Knicks and Spurs at noon ET.
