Nvidia-Backed doubleAI Launches 'Maxwell' to Cut Soaring AI Computing Costs

Nvidia-Backed doubleAI Launches

Israeli AI startup doubleAI has launched "Maxwell," a specialized AI model designed to cut the soaring cost of running artificial intelligence by making software itself more efficient. The company, co-founded by Mobileye founder and CEO Amnon Shashua and backed by Nvidia and other investors, has reportedly raised around $220 million.

According to reporting published Monday by The Wall Street Journal, Maxwell examines computational work and finds ways to execute it more efficiently, rather than relying on faster chips or cheaper cloud deals. The company says one early customer reduced computing costs by roughly 67 percent after using the technology, though that figure is company-reported and has not been independently verified.

The launch targets a growing pain point for businesses deploying AI at scale. Companies running large language models for inference, analytics and repetitive workloads often focus on buying better hardware. But software optimization can deliver savings by reducing the computing power needed to complete the same tasks, with small gains multiplying across millions of operations.

Analysts note the approach is part of a wider industry shift: as AI spending explodes, startups are finding markets in controlling costs, not just building bigger models. For doubleAI, the challenge now is proving that its savings hold up across different customers, hardware and workloads in demanding production environments.
