One Killed, Eight Injured in Attack on Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Airport
Saudi Arabia's civil aviation authority confirmed on Thursday that King Fahd International Airport in the eastern city of Dammam was attacked on Wednesday evening, killing one resident and injuring eight others. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said the wounded — whose injuries range from minor to critical — were all taken to hospital. The attack also damaged airport property, with the full extent still being assessed. Flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported aircraft being diverted away from the airport after the incident.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said two people were killed after air defenses intercepted a drone targeting a facility at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oilfield.
The strikes are the latest in an escalating wave of attacks on Saudi aviation infrastructure. Last week, a projectile strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on October 11 killed one person and injured 11; an earlier attack on the same airport on October 10 killed 12 and injured more than 300, according to the civil aviation authority.
On Wednesday, the US State Department ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, citing growing threats from Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement, which it said had "increasingly engaged in hostilities" against the kingdom.
