OpenAI Brings Its AI Models to Google Cloud, Ending the Microsoft-Only Era

OpenAI will make its frontier AI models and Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, the companies announced on Wednesday — a landmark deal between two rivals that puts OpenAI's technology on all three major U.S. cloud platforms.
Under the agreement, Google Cloud customers will be able to purchase models such as GPT-6 Astra through Google Cloud's Model Garden and Marketplace, drawing down existing cloud spending commitments for the purchases. The models will also be available inside Google's Antigravity development environment and the Gemini Agent.
"This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building," said OpenAI president Greg Brockman. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the company is "focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI." OpenAI stressed that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
The move completes a rapid expansion that began less than six months ago, when OpenAI said Microsoft no longer held an exclusive license to its intellectual property. Amazon started hosting OpenAI models in April, and now Google joins the lineup — meaning developers can deploy the technology through Azure, AWS or Google Cloud without switching providers. For Google, whose cloud revenue growth accelerated to about 82% in the second quarter, adding OpenAI's models strengthens its strategy of offering customers a wider range of third-party models.
