OpenAI Gives ChatGPT Pro and Business Users Up to $500 in Free API Credits Every Month

OpenAI has begun giving its paying ChatGPT Pro and Business subscribers up to $500 a month in free credits to spend on its developer platform, in a move designed to turn chat subscribers into app builders. The benefit, announced on 28 October through OpenAI's developer account on X and its Help Center, links a ChatGPT subscription to a single API organisation for the first time.
The amount depends on the plan. Individual Pro subscribers receive a monthly credit equal to their tier price — $100, $200 or $500. Business workspaces pool credits from their paid seats, at $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, capped at $500 per workspace each month. Workspaces that pay annually upfront receive the whole year's credit in one grant, capped at $6,000.
There are conditions: the subscription must have been active for at least seven days, the same email must be used for both accounts, and credits expire at the end of each billing cycle without rolling over. Free, Go, Plus and Enterprise plans are not eligible. The credits can fund the Responses and Agents APIs, real-time voice and image generation — and the offer closely mirrors a similar perk Anthropic announced for Claude Max users earlier in October, as the two AI giants compete for developers.
