Pakistan and Canada Wrap Up Third Round of Investment Treaty Talks in Islamabad

Pakistan and Canada have concluded the third round of negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty in Islamabad, wrapping up a three-day session on October 24, 2026. Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tariq Ali Khan oversaw the proceedings, and official minutes were signed by representatives of both countries to formally record the progress made.
The treaty aims to give investors a transparent and predictable framework, encouraging cross-border investment in sectors including renewable energy, mining, agriculture and information technology. Both sides said the framework is designed to close gaps in the current economic arrangements so that investors from each country can operate with greater confidence.
Officials from both delegations praised the commitment shown during the intensive talks, saying the initiative builds long-term institutional trust between Pakistan and Canada. The negotiations continue a push that gathered pace earlier this year to conclude an investment protection agreement between the two countries.
