Pakistan and EU Agree to Strengthen Counterterrorism Cooperation at Islamabad Dialogue

Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to deepen counterterrorism cooperation, including closer coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral forums, after the 10th round of the Pakistan-EU Bilateral Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Dr Fareha Bugti, Director General for Counterterrorism, while the EU side was headed by Anna Strzaska, the European External Action Service's Special Envoy for Counterterrorism. According to Pakistan's Foreign Office, both sides unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and reaffirmed their commitment to fighting it through cooperation and coordinated action.

The EU condemned recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, expressed solidarity with affected civilians, and acknowledged Islamabad's counterterrorism efforts. Both sides also voiced concern over the security implications of developments in Afghanistan and recognised each other's contributions to the global fight against terrorism.

The talks focused on emerging threats, including the exploitation of cyberspace, information and energy resources by terrorist groups, along with terrorist financing, violent extremism and radicalisation in all its forms. Officials agreed to keep engagement regular and institutionalised, and to hold the 11th round of the dialogue in Brussels next year on a mutually convenient date.
